Within the framework of this programme, <strong>HacTe promotes three artistic residencies in three research centres in Barcelona<\/strong>: the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icfo.eu\/\">Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO),<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iri.upc.edu\/\">Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (IRI CSIC-UPC)<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uoc.edu\/portal\/en\/index.html\">Open University of Catalonia (UOC).<\/a> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After an open call that began last July, we announce the three winners who will contribute to solving the challenges proposed by each research centre:<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>DISNOVATION.ORG with the project &#8216;The Solar Share&#8217; \u2013 Residency at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO)<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Challenge<\/em>: How does photosynthesis work at the molecular level and how can we improve it? The disclosure of the processes that govern energy transfer at the nanoscale could advance sustainable agriculture, green energy and carbon capture. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Artist<\/em>: They are a research collective established in Paris in 2012. The main members are Maria Roszkowska (PL), Nicolas Maigret (FR) and Baruch Gottlieb (CA\/DE). DISNOVATION.ORG works at the interface between contemporary art, research and hacking, and forms tailor-made teams for each research together with academics, activists, engineers and designers.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Project<\/em>: Proposes an economic model oriented towards sustainability that revolves around sunlight collected in photosynthetic organisms. &#8216;Solar Share&#8217; allows users to experiment and explore with a radical economic model, where human metabolism, as well as the energy needs corresponding to the modern lifestyle, are understood as factors of sunlight captured in the biosphere. Their role will be especially important for the elderly, providing not only a form of companionship, but also facilitating their autonomy. How can the arts play an active role in improving the interaction between humans and robots?  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Artist<\/em>: M\u00f3nica Riki\u0107 is an electronic artist from Barcelona. She has a degree in Fine Arts (UB) and a master&#8217;s degree in Digital Arts (UPF) and in Contemporary Philosophy (UOC). She is currently a doctoral student on the doctoral programme in Information and Network Technologies (UOC). She has been awarded the 2021 National Culture Prize of Catalonia. She focuses her practice on creative coding and electronics, combining them with non-digital objects to create interactive projects, robotic installations and handcrafted electronic devices.    <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Project<\/em>: This is an artistic research project that examines the expressive conditions necessary for non-humanoid social robots to be accepted as trusted and safe companions within a collaborative healthcare environment. The general idea of the project is based on the awareness that these spaces are sensitive to both consensual and accidental physical contact between humans and robots. Pollution, rising temperatures, and the threat of sea level rise, to name a few, are pressing issues and looking the other way is no longer an option. How can digital art practices be part of the solution?  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Artist<\/em>: Mark Farid is an artist, researcher and professor of Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins (University of the Arts of London). He specializes in the intersection of the virtual and physical worlds and the effect of new technologies on the individual. Farid&#8217;s work embodies hacker ethics, and focuses on privacy policies, the use of surveillance technologies, and campaigning for data protection.
