The Chilean artist Constanza Piña has been the winner of the RACOR grant with the project Sedna, a scientific-poetic narrative about the lament of the Earth that connects different voices of organic, mineral and celestial bodies.
In its first edition, RACOR, the second pilot program of the ACTS Network, has received 78 applications. The jury – made up of Susana Arias (CCCB), Clara Piazuelo (associate researcher at RACOR), Ane Agirre (Tabakalera) and Anna Manubens (Hangar) – would like to thank all the candidates for their energy and dedication in drafting the proposals and projecting themselves in the context proposed by this programme.
About the artist and the project
Sedna takes as its starting point the extraction of minerals from the Chilean Andean territory, specifically from the Atacama Desert. The piece aims to establish a nostalgic (science) fiction dialogue between the earth and the distant dwarf planet Sedna, which lies beyond the orbit of Neptune. This remote object is, in fact, the most distant from the solar system, belongs to a dark and unknown place in the galaxy: the hypothetical Oort cloud and is composed of rock, ice and icy gases.
Constanza Piña grew up in South America, between the white noise of the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountain range, loaded with a wide spectrum of minerals; a specific electromagnetic background that influenced his imagination from a very young age. Her artistic research explores noise as a sound, social and cultural phenomenon. Her practice has a technofeminist approach and combines contemporary technologies with traditional artisanal techniques, developing open hardware devices, DIY electronics, e-textiles, analog synthesizers and experimental antennas.

About RACOR and the ACTS Network
RACOR is the second pilot programme of the ACTS Network, promoted by Tabakalera , Hangar, a centre for artistic production and research and the Centre de Cultura Conteporània de Barcelona (CCCB), to support an artistic research project that needs the contexts, networks and/or services of the three centres for its development. and that generates a space for dialogue between traditionally segregated epistemic fields. The cross-residencies will be accompanied by a research layer throughout the process with the aim of extracting shared learnings throughout the pilot project.
This programme is part of the ACTS Network, promoted by Hac Te, the Open University of Catalonia , and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation , with the aim of creating a common space at the national level between institutions and projects of different types with common objectives in relation to the ACTS.
