The HacTe community consists of a diverse network of individuals who take part in the ACTS shared space. We engage with them on an ongoing basis or through specific collaborative projects.
Miquel Martí was born in Barcelona in 1970. Although he has an extensive career in the private sector, it was not until 2013 that he embarked on “the project of his life”: Tech Barcelona. For more than a decade, he has been designing and leading the largest technology association in southern Europe, which has three headquarters in Barcelona: the iconic Pier01, Pier03 and Pier07.
Antonio Gagliano is a visual artist and researcher. Her long-term projects seek to interweave artistic practices and research, testing rare methodologies to investigate how knowledge emerges, dissipates or disseminates. He has collaborated for a decade as an editor at Radio Web MACBA. Since 2020, he has been responsible for Hangar’s research programs.
Cultural manager specialized in non-profit associations and in obtaining public funding for cultural projects. Currently, director of the cultural consultancy and association management La Nuclear and administrator of the HacTe Association.
PhD in Biochemistry and Master’s Degree in Scientific, Medical and Environmental Communication. She is currently the head of communication at the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST). Before that, he had been a member of the Centre for Research in Agricultural Genomics (CRAG) and the Centre for Regenerative Medicine of Barcelona (CMRB).
Journalist specialising in Humanities (UPF) with a master’s degree in Cultural Management (UOC) and more than eight years of experience in communication and cultural management. She has been responsible for marketing and communication at the BARTS Room and collaborates with various educational and cultural institutions, both in communication advice and in the organization of talks and interdisciplinary projects.
Director of Eina Obra, an initiative of the Eina Foundation aimed at promoting the transition to socially and ecologically sustainable practices through design and art. PhD in Philosophy from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB).He holds a Master’s Degree in Arts from New York University (NYU).Bachelor of Liberal Arts from Harvard University Extension School.
Manuel Cirauqui (1978) is a writer and exhibition curator whose work is situated at the intersection of contemporary art, strategic design and the experimentation of new models of academia. He is founding director of einaidea, a research platform created in 2019 by Fundació Eina, Barcelona. Associated with Eina Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art, einaidea operates as a project generator, traveling design studio, intensive study program, curatorial office and a kind of think tank. Based largely on artistic collaboration and co-creative dynamics, einaidea has worked with Sónar Festival, Teatre Lliure, Arts Libris, Centre Grau-Garriga d’Art Tèxtil Contemporari, Fundació Tàpies, LOOP Festival, The Green Parrot, La Paperería, Staedelschule Frankfurt, Royal College of Art Stockholm, Universitat Politècnica de València, among others.
Born in the United Kingdom, she has a degree in Journalism and a diploma in Sociology, and has an extensive career in cultural and audiovisual management. For the last six years, she has worked at the Teatre Lliure as a project coordinator and producer, where she has promoted initiatives of a diverse and transversal nature, generating cultural impact on society. She is currently the director of the Eina Foundation.
She has a degree in Audiovisual Communication (UB) and a master’s degree in Cultural Management (UOC-UdG). She has worked as an independent cultural manager and consultant accompanying artists, public institutions and private entities. From 2020 to 2023 she worked at Connexions improbables, an organization that promotes open innovation processes through hybridization methodologies between the arts and other sectors.
Manel Jiménez is the UOC’s Vice President for Alliances, Community and Culture. She has a PhD in Communication from the same university, a master’s degree in Advanced Studies in the same field and two degrees: Audiovisual Communication (UPF) and Comparative Literature (UB). He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford and at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the British Film Institute. Until 2023 he was vice-rector for Educational Transformation, Culture and Communication at UPF (where he was a professor since 2000) and a member of the strategic committee of the Association of European Universities.
Raquel Bouso Garcia is an associate professor of Philosophy in the Department of Humanities. With a degree in Information Sciences (UAB, 1995) and in Humanities (UPF, 1997), she holds a PhD in Humanities, with a thesis on the notion of emptiness in the philosophy of Keiji Nishitani (UPF, 2005). His lines of research focus on the areas of intercultural philosophy and Asian thought and religions, in particular Japanese philosophy and Buddhism.
Librarian and cultural manager, with an outstanding career in innovation in libraries and the promotion of projects that connect culture, technology and science. She currently directs the Culture and Community Area of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and leads initiatives such as UPCArts.
Dr. Lydia Sanmartí-Vila is ICFO’s Outreach Coordinator, an area that deals with a wide variety of programs and activities aimed at audiences from all walks of life, and is also the executive manager of ECOP. She has created successful programs that have been replicated such as LightTalks, CARLA and Be an ICFOnian for a Day, and is a member of the coordination team of the European Quantum Flagship. With a degree in Biochemistry from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and a PhD in Neurobiology from the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology in Germany, she has extensive international experience.
Creative Lead, Head of Communication at La Tempesta: Digital for Culture. Postgraduate Degree in Cultural Management (UB). Cultural manager and art curator with a career in visual arts, specifically in sculpture and public art, with a Ukrainian and European dimension, and in methodologies that incorporate technology and new ways of thinking about the arts.
Andreu Rodríguez Valveny is a businessman and cultural patron from Reus (Catalonia), recognized for his firm commitment to the convergence between art, technology and innovation. Founder of pioneering projects in the technological field, he promoted the creation of the . NewArt { foundation;}, of which he is president. Its work focuses on promoting the research, production and conservation of works of art based on new technologies, supporting artists and creators to strengthen the cultural and technological ecosystem both locally and internationally.
She has a degree in Art History from the University of Barcelona and a master’s degree in Information and Knowledge Society from the IN3 (Internet Interdisciplinary Institute-UOC). From 2010 to 2017, she was director of Hangar, a Centre for artistic production and research in Barcelona. From 2018 to 2022, she was Secretary General of Culture Action Europe in Brussels.
Pau Alsina is an associate professor in the Department of Arts and Humanities at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) and on the Official Master’s Degree in Digital Art Curatorship (ESDI). Since 2001 he has edited the scientific journal ARTNODES on Artistic Research linked to Science and Technology. He has chaired conferences (BCN ISEA, Art Matters, Interface Politics), curated exhibitions (BCN Science Biennial, ISEA Possibles, Ars Electronica Garden, NEO Cosmocaixa, Cultures of Change), advised public institutions (FECYT, Barcelona City Council) and private institutions (Fundació Carasso, BBVA, NAF) on the relationship between the arts and sciences. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Barcelona Council of Culture.
Jordi Ros is an architect from the Barcelona School of Architecture (ETSAB, 1983) and holds a PhD from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (2017). Associate professor in the Department of Architectural Projects (DPA), among other teaching activities, he currently coordinates the Architecture and Technology Workshop of the last year of the degree in Architecture Studies, where the integration of technological, sustainable and constructive criteria in the development of advanced architectural projects is worked on.
Sergi Botella Llongueras (Terrassa, 1976) is an artist, cultural producer and manager linked to the Hangar ecosystem, where he has developed several research and mediation projects, with a focus on caring for the material and working conditions of artists. He is currently in charge of the management of the center. Her artistic practice has focused on the intersection between performance, visual culture, electronic music and collective practices.
Promoter of transversal Knowledge Transfer projects at UPF and coordinator of the “In Residence” programme. It generates nodes between research staff and entrepreneurs with the socio-economic sector -institutions, entities and society-. Previously, he developed his professional career, for twenty years, at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona where he had various responsibilities: head of press, head of the website and, in recent years, responsible for attracting new audiences.
Roc Parés Burguès (Mexico, 1968). Research artist in interactive communication. Committed to an interdisciplinary culture, which he defends for its emancipatory potential, he has explored the intersections between art, science, technology, thought and society. His works are characterized by poetic and critical experimentation with digital technologies and have been presented, published and exhibited internationally. PhD in Audiovisual Communication (UPF) and Bachelor of Fine Arts (UB). Honorary Artistic Creator of the National System of Art Creators of FONCA (Mexico).
Vicente Matallana is the director of the . NewArt { foundation;} and founder and director of LaAgencia, an independent new media art company established in 1998, with a mission to address the new structural and conceptual needs arising from the intersection of art, science and technology. It develops programs and projects focused on technological art as an alternative paradigm for research and knowledge.
Kinkinella is a Chilean artist and researcher whose work deals with free technologies, post-pornography practices, biohacking, collectivity, crafts, open culture and scientific-performative dissemination. His practice is constantly collective and material, informed by notions of territorial, social and emotional roots. Recent work has focused on abdominal pain, chronic inflammation, and microbial damage to the gut, which has led Kinkinella to examine self-management, microbial bioremediation, and the need to redefine personal narratives. Kinkinella has participated in a S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK residency at Liqenlab, promoted by HacTe.
Materials researcher, transdisciplinary artist and educator, driven by curiosity, alchemical processes and exploration of the territory. Currently resident of Hangar’s Wetlab. Her practice investigates situated matter, waste flows, regenerative ontologies and multi-species ideologies. She investigates bodies, techniques and concepts that ferment her transdisciplinary approach in the margins of art and science. It encourages the exchange of knowledge, generating situated and critical methodological tools to broaden the perspective of what we consider matter, waste, ecology and community. She focuses on the creation of materials from the collection, ritualizing the making-matter as a poetic and political practice. She has been a resident in the experimental research program AION.
Founder and Director of La Tempesta (latempesta.cc), a digital studio working with cultural, social, heritage, and knowledge-intensive organisations. Marc specializes in leading multidisciplinary teams and leveraging innovation and digital resources to create value for cultural and knowledge-based organisations as well as for their communities. Before founding La Tempesta, Marc led digital transformation initiatives at the Culture Institute of the Barcelona City Council as CIO (Chief Information Officer). Previously, he developed his career in a digital signage and corporate TV start-up and as a strategy and management consultant.
Lecturer and researcher at EINA (UAB) in the areas of projects, user-centered design, innovation methodologies and industrial transformation processes, and is currently Deputy Director and Director of Innovation and Enterprise at Eina.
Alba Colombo is a professor in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Open University of Catalonia and a senior researcher in the field of Festivals and Events from a critical perspective. Her research has focused on the analysis of cultural events as spaces for social transformation, sustainability and symbolic confrontation. He has published extensively in international journals and is an active member of European academic networks such as ATLAS and WLO. She is currently working on the role of events in relation to contemporary social challenges. She has participated in the design of an evaluation model and indicators for the transformation of transdisciplinary practices together with the HacTe team and other experts.
Lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) in the field of Social and Cultural Anthropology, and visiting professor in the Department of Anthropology, History and Humanities at the Flacso University (Ecuador). Her research career stands out for its interdisciplinary nature and the breadth of her fields of study, with a transversal focus on ethnography and qualitative methodologies linked to the media. Her current lines of research in the Mediaccions group are related to the development of digital ethnography, the anthropology of design, creative practices, environmental activism and narratives. She has participated in the design of an evaluation model and indicators for the transformation of transdisciplinary practices together with the HacTe team and other experts.
Mónica Rikić is an artist from Barcelona who has been awarded the National Prize for Culture of Catalonia. Her practice combines technology, art, and philosophy through the creation of electronic artifacts and handmade robots, conceived as critical devices that foster collective thought and debate about the ways of life, social relations, and subjectivities that emerge in an increasingly technified society. He has presented his work in exhibitions, festivals and international institutions, and has received several prestigious awards. She has participated in artistic residencies in different countries, including the artistic residency of S+T+ARTS in the City at the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (IRI), promoted by HacTe.
DISNOVATION.ORG fuses contemporary art, research, and hacking to translate complex eco-social debates into critical operational and provocative exhibitions. They create radical artworks staged as large laboratory experiments focused on energy, ecology, and economics that function as catalysts to build futures that diverge from prevailing narratives. His exhibitions, books and videos permeated global cultural landscapes, fostering a critical dialogue at the nexus of artistic, political and scientific research. They co-edited with Nicolas Nova A Bestiary of the Anthropocene, an atlas of anthropic hybrid creatures, and The Pirate Book, an anthology on media piracy. DISNOVATION.ORG were part of the S+T+ARTS in the City project with a residency at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) promoted by HacTe.
For 15 years, Delater has been working as a project manager and grant writer, specializing in European and large-scale programmes in the field of digital arts and hybrid collaborations between Arts, Science, and Tech. Working as a freelance, she supports cultural and creative organisations and artists in designing their projects, securing funding, and managing European projects. She regularly organizes workshops for artists looking to develop skills in building strong applications for open calls, residencies, prizes, and incubators. She is driven by the energy of creators and artists, valuing the unique perspective they bring to innovation and ‘out of the box’ thinking at social, economic, and environmental levels. She collaborates and works as a consultant for HacTe’s international projects line.
Margherita Gallano is a researcher in biophysics at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC). Trained in Physics in Munich, she did a stay at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. He has presented his research at international conferences in Germany, Spain, Belgium and Brazil and has taught physics at LMU Munich and USP. In parallel to research, she participates in dissemination and knowledge exchange initiatives that connect science, art and territory, such as workshops in rural schools in Catalonia and collaborations with resident artists at IBEC. He has been a resident in the experimental research program AION.
She is an artist and researcher based in Barcelona/Berlin. Her work critically explores the way in which techno-capitalist narratives affect the literacy of machines, humans, and ecosystems. His main research topics include the materiality of the Internet, surveillance, social profiling, interfaces, and energy. Joana Moll was the resident artist of the GRAPA support programme promoted by the CCCB and Hangar to open and narrate creative processes that are located at the intersection of art, science, technology and society (ACTS).
Independent artist She works between live arts, video and choreography. “She makes cinema” as an alibi (political), to challenge devices and provoke and sustain collective experiences where she can get involved and spend time “with” others, such as ruido ê (2021-2023), where she has generated a “relational network” with artists, scientists, divers… She was a resident artist in the accompanying programme GRAPA, promoted by the CCCB and Hangar, to open up and narrate creative processes that are located at the intersection between art, science, technology and society. In addition, she collaborates with HacTe as liaison mediator of the residence 10 (Tierra de Fuegos) of S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK.
