The journal ArtNodes, a reference publication in research and critical thinking on the intersections between art, science, technology and society, has published node number 37, dedicated to the analysis of the potential catalytic role of the transformation of ASTS practices. This issue is linked to the symposium Exploring the intersections of Arts, Science, Technology and Society as catalysts for change, co-organized in 2024 by HacTe and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), within the framework of the European project S+T+ARTS in the City.
Coordinated by Pau Alsina, Tere Badia and Andrés Burbano, this issue aims to
what it means to transform and how to evaluate the impact of hybrid practices and research between the fields of Arts, Science, Technology and Society (ACTS) when value emerges from the process, relationships and context, and not only from the final results of this type of process. The edition delves into the tensions of measurability and documentation in environments where the relevant is situated, communitarian and often not reducible to traditional indicators.
Through 19 articles by national and international authors, the issue explores how these practices can alter imaginaries, data, institutions and communities, and argues that the impact is also present in changes in habits, prototypes that guide policies, collaborative infrastructures, shared knowledge and practices that reconfigure ways of doing and organizing.
