Check out the HacTe programme at Sónar+D

The relationship between art, science and technology takes many forms and it is increasingly urgent and essential for us to promote their prosperity. With the aim of exploring the potential of these hybridisations and looking for new ways to promote them, HacTe and Sónar+D present a programme with debates, artistic works and presentations.

– Open Forum on Art, Science and Technology – Thursday 15 June, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at SonarÀgora

One of the highlights of the programme will be the Open Forum on Art, Science and Technology, which will bring together different communities to share ideas, experiences and success stories. The aim is to offer a global vision of the current situation and what remains to be done. The conversation will be divided into three sections, each of which will feature specially selected speakers and guests from the artistic and scientific communities. They will be the ones who kick off the conversations:

Why the relationship between art and science is important, relying on

Ernest Giralt, professor and chemist at the University of Barcelona specialising in synthetic molecules. Also an artist, he is responsible for artistic residencies at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Barcelona.
Anna Carreras, a generative artist and creative coder from Barcelona, whose work uses algorithms to create visuals that evoke memories and generate new ones.
Joan Llort, biogeochemical oceanographer at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre who studies the links between the chemical composition of the oceans and the organisms that inhabit them.

Exploring different models of residency, with

Mónica Bello, curator of the artistic programme at CERN, home to the Large Hadron Collider, the most powerful particle accelerator in the world. Among the residents are the artists Tomas Saraceno and Sigurður Guðjónsson.
Evan Ziporyn, director of the CAST artistic residency program at MIT, a center that has hosted collaborations with the artist and musician Pamela Z; the artists Tomas Saraceno and Carsten Höller; and the minimalist composer Terry Riley.
Mónica Rikić, electronic artist and creative coder from Barcelona, winner of the National Culture Award of Catalonia in 2021.

How artists are contributing to current challenges, with

Rosanna di Nuzzo, head of international projects at the MEET Digital Centre in Milan, founded to support digital creativity and culture.
Ferran Marqués, lecturer in the Image Processing Unit of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), focused on image and video analysis.
Fernando Cucchietti, Head of Data Analysis and Visualization at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, which hosts several artistic residencies.

SónarAgora / Sónar+D

– Presentation of the ACTS Network and the White Paper on the interrelationship between Art, Science and Technology in Spain – Thursday 15 June, from 1 pm to 2 pm at SonarÀgora

Then, from 1 p.m., two statewide projects will be presented. The first will be the recently created Red ACTS (promoted by the hub itself, the Open University of Catalonia and the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation), a shared network of artists, researchers and institutions. During the presentation, the implementation of the project will be explained with the first cartographies and reports made, as well as the pilot projects launched.

This will be followed by a second presentation for the update of the White Paper on the interrelationship between Art, Science and Technology in the Spanish State of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT).

Presentation of the GRAPA pilot of the ACTS Network / Arnau Rovira

– HacTe stand in the Project Area – From 15 to 17 June

From 15 to 17 June, HacTe and the ACTS Network will present the first mapping carried out by the four nodes of the ACTS Network: Barcelona-Catalonia, Donostia-Euskadi, Valencia and Madrid. You can also see the olfactory work Chemical Ecosystem by Yolanda Uriz at Sónar+D. The piece exemplifies the potential of the relationships between art, science, technology and society (ACTS).

In this same space, a series of four video capsules produced by Hac Te will be shown, reflecting on the collaborations between artists, scientists and technologists; the way in which we face transdisciplinary challenges; the digital art ecosystem in Catalonia or the social and economic impact of digital culture.

– HacTe members at Sónar+D – From 15 to 17 June

At the same time, during the three days of Sónar+D, the Project Area space will host different works and installations by HacTe’s partner institutions, such as the Institute for Research in Biomedicine of Barcelona (IRB Barcelona) – one of the centres that make up the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) community – or the NewArt Foundation, which exemplify the potential of co-creations between artists, scientists and technologists, while positioning Barcelona as an international pole in this field.

At Stage+D, einaidea will present the performance TURBULENCE AT BLACK BAY GRENADA by the British artist Gaika and the Playmodes studio will show an installation powered by natural light, the result of a research process in which it has collaborated with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia.

In addition , the Pompeu Fabra University in collaboration with Sónar+D is organising the AI & Web3 Creatives Summit, which will address the relationship between cinema and Artificial Intelligence to coincide with the festival.
