The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is launching a call for participation in its new Art and Science programme, “Open Dialogues”, thanks to the co-funding from the Ajuntament de Barcelona and the Severo Ochoa Accreditation for Excellence, and with the collaboration of HacTe.
This initiative connects artists, who will be the lead applicants of the projects, with IBEC researchers, fostering co-creation processes from the earliest stages of scientific research. Open Dialogues aims to create meeting spaces that encourage new forms of collaboration between science and art.
Artists and researchers will first meet in a Hackathon organised by IBEC, after which two teams will be selected to develop their projects. Over a five-month period, each team (composed of one artist and one IBEC scientist) will work together to explore IBEC’s research and generate new ways of understanding, communicating, and addressing complex problems. The outcomes will be shared with the public in a final exhibition.

- Guidance from a cultural manager
- Access to IBEC’s scientific environment
- Financial support for selected artists and researchers
Who can apply?
Young artists of all disciplines (visual arts, digital arts, installation, video, sound, music, performance, etc.) residing in Catalonia, of any nationality, are welcome to apply. Within this co-creation programme, artists will take the lead as creative drivers and project coordinators.
IBEC researchers with an interest in the arts and in exploring new approaches to their science are also encouraged to participate.
