As part of the S+T+ARTS Buen-TEK project, the Buen-TEK Compendiumhas been released—a multidisciplinary publishing project created with the aim of documenting, sharing, and expanding upon the insights and methodologies that emerged during the residencies held in South America. The publication brings together the perspectives of more than 30 key stakeholders, including artists, scientists, local creators, researchers, and staff at cultural institutions on both sides of the Atlantic, thereby consolidating an ecosystem of shared knowledge between Europe and Latin America.
The main body of the publication is organized into three main sections that address different aspects of the program.
The first, “Ethics and Methodologies,” compiles the collective writing exercises and synchronous reflection processes carried out by the host organizations in South America (referred to as “twins”) and their European counterparts. This section defines the ethical foundations and the project’s stance regarding territory and ownership of knowledge.
Titled “Collectively,” the second section provides a space dedicated to highlighting the urgent needs of local communities, as well as the manifestos, strategies, and prototypes resulting from the program’s co-creative workshops.
Finally, the “Recipe Book” serves as a technical and methodological manual that compiles tools, technologies, and practices tested by the artist-in-residence. The goal of this section is to build bridges between science, art, ecology, and indigenous knowledge to promote replicability.
In addition, the project includes a series of essays that delve deeper into the program’s theoretical debates and a bibliography that compiles more than 130 references shared by the Buen-TEK community.
In line with the principles of sustainability and low technological dependence promoted by the Lo-TEK concept, the compendium has been designed as an open and modular fanzine. The publication bypasses rigid publishing distribution channels, allowing users to read the content online, save personalized collections, or download and print sections for manual physical assembly.
